Perdition Temple interview

PERDITION TEMPLE interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the infernal entity known as Perdition Temple,
introduce the band. (who does what, plays what instruments)

Perdition Temple: As for the album it is myself(gene palubicki) and Terry Eleftheriou, who is the drummer. I did all guitars, bass, and vocals for the record. All the music had been written by me around the same times as the material for the last ANGELCORPSE album and had been intended for the next album under that band name, but with the split of that bands core members I changed the name and thus now the material exists as PERDITION TEMPLE…
2. Dark Recollections: not much is known about Perdition Temple, give us a brief bio.

Perdition Temple: Really there is not much to say as for a “bio”…up until around late 2008 all of these songs were being prepared for the 5th ANGELCORPSE record, although without lyrics for the songs at that point. So the beginning of the band was in effect the moment that ANGELCORPSE was deceased….

3. Dark Recollections: was a demo released prior to your debut cd?
Perdition Temple: No. Just some scratch demos I made for the label that I’d had around for years time to work out the songs with the drummer, at ANGELCORPSE breaking i sent the tracks to OSMOSE to preview for interest….

4. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut Cd “Edict of the Antichrist Elect”
Perdition Temple: It is 8 songs of probably the most unforgiving material I’ve come up with. There is not one riff in any of the songs that does not have some elaborate purpose in it’s contribution to the whole of he albums work. Some tracks vary from total warlike grinding barbarism to nearly Wagnerian melodic fury, and of course as with any of my previous stuff(ANGELCORPSE) there is always some wild finger flapping technical whirlwinds…There are some moments which pick up on ideas going all the way back the the earlist stuff like “Hammer of Gods” album, and others that relate to the last ANGELCORPSE “Of Lucifer and Lightning”. I’ve gotten a lot of comments saying the album sounds like it chronologically should have been the album to come right after 1999’s “The Inexorable” since the material for the whole record is almost a continuous barrage of fast aggression…

5. Dark Recollections: what is the song “plague camp” about, what inspired its lyrics?
Perdition Temple: That song is about medical/chemical weapons experiments that took place in China during WWII. It has always been a subject of interest to me, as well as similar events that took place in other parts of the world. Some other tracks are devoted to Antichrist subjects and Anti-degeneracy, as well as my views to what human life actually represents and my opinion on where our existance should ascend to, also some stuff on the “warlike” code and even thoughts on the use of human life as playthings for whatever desire one could have and experience with total impunity….

6. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for Cd?
Perdition Temple: Both the logo and the cover art were done by C. Moyen.

7. Dark Recollections: Perdition Temple a studio projekt only, would you ever get to play live?
Perdition Temple: There is much preparation going on as I write this for live stuff both in the USA and EUROPE for 2011…

8. Dark Recollections: talk about other projects you are involved with.
Perdition Temple: Other active ones i’m doing are the more thrashing oriented BLASPHEMIC CRUELTY and my collaboration with Cam Sinclair of DIOCLETION on my other work APOCALYPSE COMMAND. BLASPHEMIC CRUELTY debut album “Devils Mayhem” came out in 2008, and the APOCALYPSE COMMAND had a demo in 2006 and now finally the debut album “Damnation Scythes of Invincible Abomination” will be released April 2011.

9. Dark Recollections: what are your thoughts, on the latest old school death metal resurgence, any bands you like?
Perdition Temple: There are an assortment of new bands that I like…especially NEGATIVE PLANE, FORCE OF DARKNESS, NECROVATION, EMBRACE OF THORNS and some others…I don’t do mp3 so i don’t hear every band that comes out, but when i actually trade with a band or make a purchase on impulse and actually like the stuff it will always stay with me….

10. Dark Recollections: you have been involved in the underground scene for a long time, what has it been like
to be around for so long, see so many bands and trends come and go, and still be around after so long?
Perdition Temple: It is a little strange to look back and see how things come and go…I even feel that many people criticize me for the fact that I never go along with any of the trends and have never pursued the “easy” way to quick success…

11. Dark Recollections: any bands you recommend checking out?
Perdition Temple: definitly some of the ones I mentioned above.

12. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available from you? (list items, prices)
ANSWER: There are t-shirts in L and XL as well as cds available from me. All the order info can be viewed on a myspace page I’ve set up: myspace.com/perditiontemple

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview
Perdition Temple: Thanks for the support! It is very rewarding for me to still contribute to the forwarding of of honest black/death metal!
