1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the infernal entity known as Ascension
introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)
Ascension is a german black metal band formed in 2007.
It consists of 5 members

2. Dark Recollections: give us a brief band bio.
ASCENSION: Our label is W.T.C. Productions (www.w-t-c.org). Anyone interested in the band can check our myspace site at: www.myspace.com/gatewaystoascension
Ascension means spiritual pursuit and strife and is the logical conclusion of our thoughts on life. Both, the will to achieve, to overcome, to develope and the unearthly, metaphysical aspects of the word are inherent to our concept. We follow the light of Lucifer and consider ourselves artists in his name. As such we are mediums. We get inspiration from the powers that surround and embrace us, we channel them and try to express them in a certain way. As music is a powerful tool when handled correctly and given the spasms and erection one experiences when listening to the right tunes, the choice of the artform was a natural consequence. Ascension holds the flag of darkness and death and sings the songs of faith and devotion. We wish to get closer to our inspiration with every song and try to express it as unaltered as possible. The purer we get as individuals, the purer our art will become. Hail Lucifer.

3. Dark Recollections:how long has current line up being together?
ASCENSION: Since 2007

4. Dark Recollections: what have you released so far, what has been the reaction to releases?
ASCENSION: We have so far released a demo (With Burning Tongues), a 12“ single (Fire And Faith) and an album (Consolamentum). The reactions so far have been very good apart from some half assed interviews we have to answer from time to time.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your latest release “consolamentum”

ASCENSION: Consolamentum is our debut album, released on ChristMass 2010 by W.T.C. Productions. It´s a concept album divided into 5 chapters and consisting of 8 tracks. The album generally deals with the transformation of a human soul and it´s journey from ashes to salvation. The five parts „Learn how to breath“, „Learn how to lie“, „Learn how to live“, „Learn how to kill“, „Learn how to die“ represent the different stages of this process. A sample of the album in which different songs can be heard can be found at our myspace page.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “grey light sibling” about, what inspired its lyrics?
ASCENSION: “Grey Light Sibling“ represents the 2nd part of the concept: „Learn how to lie“. It deals with the struggle of finding an existence outside of societies controlled and accepted borders, outside of gods prison so to speak. The Sibling is an image for the schizophrenic aspects of that topic.

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for “consolamentum”?
ASCENSION: The french artist Metastazis (www.metastazis.com)

8. Dark Recollections: does Ascension play live, what are some of the bands you have played with,
how does the crowd react to your live show?
ASCENSION: We have not played live yet, but we will. The first official date is the Hell´s Pleasure Metal Fest in Pößneck/Germany on the 22nd & 23rd of July together with great acts such as Saturnalia Temple or Root.

9. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to tour outside of Germany, maybe tour U.S.A?
ASCENSION: We had quite an amount of offers from outside of germany but turned down any of them for now. It will however only be a question of time till we enter foreign shores.

10. Dark Recollections: anyone in the band involved in other projekts, besides Ascension?
ASCENSION:Yes, we are.

11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend checking out?
ASCENSION: I don´t care too much for a scene. German bands that are worth listening to are Necros Christos, Odem Arcarum, Chaos Invocation and Luror.

12. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available from the band?(list items, prices)
ASCENSION: Apart from the aformentioned releases we have two t-shirt designs available. More will come very soon. Considering prices etc. check the labels website at www.w-t-c.org.

1. Dark Recollections: For those not familiar with Ungod please introduce the band.

Schiekron:The Band started in 1991 and split up in 1998 due several reasons.In 2008
we started up again and released a couple of Vinyls.
Right now Ungod is:
Condemptor – Coffins
Schiekron – Bulldozer Bass
Infernal Molester – Voxum
Cryptic Tormentor – chainsaw

2. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?
Schiekron: The current Line up is together since 2009 or something.Our Singer
Infernal Molestor was the last to join the Band in 2009.We are fully
happy with this Line up and hopefully that will last some time!

3. Dark Recollections:after so many years of being gone from the underground scene
what made you want to do Ungod again… who is left from the original line up?

Schiekron: It was more or less coincidence!It began when we were asked for the re
releases of our old stuff and we agreed that it should be done with maybe
some brandnew bonus stuff.So,here we reactivated the band to compose 2
Songs or something like that and put it to rest again.Right from the start
we realy clicked with each other and the old flame was burning again.We
decided to give it a second run and here we are again!
In 2008 it was me(Schiekron),Condemptor and Infamist of Tumulus from the
original Line up plus Kvaltar from Mort as new Member.Infamist was kicked out
after a while and Kvaltar left for personal reasons.

4. Dark Recollections: all this years abscent from the black metal underground … did you
keep in touch with old friends, bands?

Schiekron: I was was never abscent from the Metal Underground!I was always there and
I`m still a fanatic! I`m still, or better again with some old friends bands etc.Internet makes
it possible!

5. Dark Recollections: what is your opinion on today’s polluted black metal scene?

Schiekron:I don`t know too much about actual Bands since I always stick to the old
stuff.But something good pops up here and there for sure.But it is hard
nowadays to keep up with whats going on with billions of Bands releasing
stuff now.

6. Dark Recollections: talk about your demo/LP “In Numele Metalului est European”… whose
idea was it…line up for recording?

Schiekron:East European Metal back in the day was always laughed at and very
underrated.So per coincidence we got the chance to have our Lyrics
translated into Romanian Language and a guy(Zdrobitor) to sing them for us.
This simply had to be done and hopefully some younger(or older) Metal Fan
will check out those great old East European Bands like
Törr,Root,Master,Kat,Shah,Turbo,Tormentor and many more!We always loved
and supported those obscure Bands and our release is here to show respect
and honour to them!

On the Vinyl version are 2 Bonustracks in english with Infernal Molester on

7. Dark Recollections: Did you ever think demo will later get released as an Lp like it did?
Schiekron: WE were not realy sure about it,but we had that in mind too.We want all
our stuff on Vinyl since it is the ultimate formal for Metal or music in general!

8. Dark Recollections: any offers to release your debut Cd “circle of seven infernal pacts”
on vinyl?
Schiekron: The original Vinyl version on HSB Records from Holland from 1993 was
limited to 500 Copies and is long gone.The Picture LP from 1999 as
well.We already had a talk about another run of a fine Vinyl Edition but
right now we concentrate on the new stuff.Maybe one day it will be
available on Vinyl again!

9. Dark Recollections: tell us about your upcoming Cd… title, who will release it, when
will it be released?

Schiekron: The new Album is out since April and it`s called Cloaked in eternal Darkness.CD contains
10 Songs and has a running time of around 43 minutes. Kneel before the Masters Throne Records
released the CD and Merciless Records will do the Vinylversion(Fold out Cover plus Bonus 7″
EP).This time we realy got the Sound we wanted and we have some surprises on
the Album as well.The style is still the same like 20 Years ago! Raw,primitive and pure Metal!

10. Dark Recollections: will your many split Eps ever be released together on Cd?

Schiekron: Not sure about that.I guess there is no demand for it!

11. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available for you?

Schiekron: Right now we only have Cloaked in eternal Darkness CD &
Ungod/Sacrilegious Rites Split 7″ EP.We`ll print some limited Shirts soon
as well!

12. Dark Recollections: death metal seems to be making a comeback… what are your thoughts
on this… any favorite new bands?

Schiekron: No idea about new Bands so much,still stick to my old shit like
Death,Possessed etc.But Necros Christos are pretty good!

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview

1. Dark Recollections: Greetings introduce current band members…(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)

AUTOPSY:Danny Coralles guitar;
Chris Reifert drums vocals;
Joe Trevisano bass;
Eric Cutler guitar vocals.

2. Dark Recollections: how hard was finding new members for this current incarnation of Autopsy?
AUTOPSY:Not hard. Chris, Danny and myself are the original members of Autopsy. Joe played bass for Abscess
and when Abscess called it quits he joined Autopsy full time.

3. Dark Recollections: what made you want to do Autopsy again. after being split up as a band for so long?
AUTOPSY: We stayed friends the whole time and decided to record a couple new songs in 2008 for the 20th
Anniversary of our 1st record “Severed Survival.” The 2 tracks were also released as a 7″ called
“Horrific Obsession.” We had fun doing that and next thing we know we have an offer to play the
Maryland Deathfest 2010. We did that, had a great time and decided to do more.

4. Dark Recollections: Autopsy has been around the underground scene for a long time, what has it been like
to see so many bands and trends come and go, and be back doing Autopsy again?
AUTOPSY: Haha, we never knew we were a trend!It’s great that people are into what we are doing, we feel that
we are making heavy music and we appreciate all the support we have received. Metal fans are the best!

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your new Ep “the tomb within”
AUTOPSY: It was written very quickly. We atarted writing songs and had an album plus more material but decided
release the ep first.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “seven skulls” about, what inspired its lyrics?
AUTOPSY: The music is inspired by whiskey! I got really drunk before writing this one. Chris wrote the lyrics
and he leaves it to you to decide what is the truth. Did he kill his family? Is he insane? Has there been
any killings? Are the bodies related to him? WTF?

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for “tomb within”?
AUTOPSY: Matt Cavotta did the artwork. He does fantasy stuff mainly
but a brilliant artisT. I love his work and we will see more Matt I believe.

8. Dark Recollections: can we expect a new Autopsy cd in the near future?

AUTOPSY: “Macabre Eternal ” is our new full length out now. A mind crushing ear bleeding make you fucking fall
down and not get back up record! Check it out kids, you get high just by playing it really fucking loud!!
Do it!! Now!!

9. Dark Recollections: what are your thoughts on the latest resurgence of old school death metal, any bands you like?
AUTOPSY: Oh shit, tons of bands I like. Obliteration, In Solitude, Bones, Asphyx, Desaster, Darkthrone, Blizzard,
Bonesaw, Morbus Chron, Merrimack, Nailgun Massacare, Lobotomized, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse,
Torn from the Womb. So many more, I cannot possibly list them, and not all are old school death metal.

10. Dark Recollections: talk about some of the shows you have planned in the near future.
AUTOPSY: We have played this year at Roskilde in Denmark, Hammer Open Air in Finland, Chaos in Tejas in Texas,
Neurotic Deathfest in the Netherlands, plus a few more. We next play in Los Angeles August 27 2011.
After that we have Maryland Deathfest 2012 and working on some more shows.

11. Dark Recollections: there is so many bootleg Autopsy live recordings out there… have you heard any of them…
any favorites, would Autopsy ever record a show to be released officially as a live Cd?
AUTOPSY: I have many in my collection. I like most of them. The only problem we have with bootlegs is we have no
artistic control or approval of material. Sometimes a songs needs to be cut out! It is good in the end
though because it promotes Autopsy and Death Metal. We will be releasing some new DVD live shows soon.
One is called “Born Undead.” It is a documentary with a band history, interviews with the band, friends
and other bands as well. It will also include rare videos and pictures as well as a second disc containing
concert footage with Dan Lilker on Bass and Joe Trevisano on bass after Joe joined the band.

12.Dark Recollections: any merchandise available from the band?
AUTOPSY: Of Course, on our website. We are adding new stuff all the time too. Some items are exclusive to our

1. Dark Recollections:Pagan hails… for those not familiar with Hekseri, introduce the band
(who does what,plays what instruments, etc)

{Thuringwethil>>>} Iron Meggido performs guitar and vocals, I do bass, vocals, and drum programming. We have no permanent drummer currently, so we may use a session drummer for live shows.

2. Dark Recollections: Give us a brief band bio

{Thuringwethil>>>} Thuringwethil and Iron Meggido met in Boston, Massachusetts 2003 during a chance jam session and found mutual interest in extreme metal. Both had been seeking bandmates with similar interests for quite a while, so this was a great start.

Iron Meggido: We really forged a strong musical bond from that first meeting on.

3. Dark Recollections: what is the origin of the word Hekseri, its meanign and why was it chosen
as a band name?

{Thuringwethil>>>} Hekseri means witchcraft in Norwegian, and it seemed appropriate for our music which itself is a type of metal sorcery. Plus, many of our basic musical and mythological influences originate from Northern Europe, so it seemed fitting.
Iron Meggido: We have strong spiritual ties to Northern Europe in the form of music and mythos in addition to ancestral.

4. Dark Recollections: tell us about your releases, how did your demos and split Cd with Gravewurm
do… what kind of response did they get from fans, sales, etc?

{Thuringwethil>>>} Our first demo “Retaliator” was recorded with a drum machine and a 4-track, and it got a good response from other local metal bands and fans. Essentially we were trying to find a suitable, permanent drummer so we could play live shows. We found someone and recorded our “Belzebut, Prince” demo, also on a 4-track. This wasn’t received as well, because the sound turned out a bit muddy and lo-fi. But we played many more live shows at this time, and managed to gather a larger local following and play with bands with whom there was mutual respect and admiration. Then we recorded a much longer session with local guitarist and producer Eric Braunschweiger and most of those tracks made it to the Time Before Time Records split with Virginia’s Gravewurm. We’d met Kevin Gravewurm at a big black metal show in New England and stayed in touch over the years. When the opportunity to do the split came along, we were thrilled because it would be our first officially distributed release. After that, we made it to a few compilations which gained us further recognition internationally. Myspace may not be so hot now, but in the early years was very helpful in getting our music heard beyond our local scene.

5. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to releases your demos on cd?

{Thuringwethil>>>} We actually had a very limited cassette demo compilation release on a Thai label, Witchhammer Productions. They’re probably only available on ebay now, though. We’d be open to re-releasing the tracks on CD, but tracks from the first two demos can still be listened to at the bottom of this web page: http://hekseri.net/media.html

6. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut Cd on Time Before Time Records

{Thuringwethil>>>} Preparing for this album was great because we had time to really prepare the songs to sound how we wanted. Iron Meggido moved from New England to Germany after the split with Gravewurm came out, but she and I continued to record and exchange ideas. It was a long process, but I was starting to learn recording software more while Iron Meggido wrote a lot of new material and even rewrote some songs from the earlier demos. We also had time to really work with producer Eric Braunschweiger on mixing. We think the songs flow together very well, and are a good representation of how we’ve progressed on our own.

7. Dark Recollections: what is the song “gods of rotting death” and what inspired its lyrics

[Iron Meggido>>>
The song Gods of Rotting Death reminds me of Celtic Frost in feel, although that was not the aim while writing it. The song channels a rage, a frustration of sorts is voiced, with the seeming downward motion of mankind, or rather the seeming inability to break free of that mentality and downward motion. By getting these demons out, it allows fresh perspective which is especially to be found on the track Enjoin the Circle, which is for me a returning to roots (nature) and of freeing oneself from the bonds raged about in Gods of Rotting Death. “Enjoin” is the reconciliation of “Gods”, whereas “Invoking the War Goddess” and “Bladefucker” are raw war cries, Atrocity is a chaotic dream through the astral planes. “Hekseri” though, is “just” a metal song.

8. Dark Recollections: care to talk about other projekts old and new you are involved in?

[Iron Meggido>>>} My current endeavors are Idis Orlog, which is based around the Norse Mythology/Nordic heathen spiritualism. This is acoustic and esoteric.

My other project is Witchblood, a Nürnberg based black metal band with elements of heavy metal.

{Thuringwethil>>>} I’m working on a new black metal project with my boyfriend called Lemegeton, in addition to a solo acoustic project called Spoorloos, all really haunted sounding shit.

9. Dark Recollections: what is your opinion on the resurgence of old school death metal,
any bands you like?

{Thuringwethil>>>} I don’t really listen to much death metal or grind anymore, underground black metal to me is much more interesting. However, I listen to tons of death/doom like Incantation, they’re an ongoing favorite of mine, and Portal are just beyond fucking comprehension. Angelcorpse and Impiety never get old, also. Of course, I still love the old school, but there are so many new bands to hear there’s no point in just keeping the same music in your speakers all the time.

10. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live… any bands worth checking out?

{Thuringwethil>>>} I still live in Boston and we have a pretty good metal scene here still. A lot of cities in the Northeastern United States are closer together so it’s easy to check out touring bands. Right now I’m really into Cythraul, Abnormality, Sarcomancy.

11. Dark Recollections: tell us about some of the places you played at, bands you opened for,
and what was the crowd’s reaction to your music?

{Thuringwethil>>>} I think our biggest show was opening for Destruction at the Middle East in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We played to a lot of people. I also remember one of our first shows opening for Grand Belial’s Key before Richard died.

12. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available for sale from the band?(list items and prices)

{Thuringwethil>>>} we had shirts but those are long since sold out, we haven’t made any new merch yet, I think we may wait until we can start playing live shows again, ideally in Europe.

TYRANEX interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the thrashing machine known as Tyranex,
introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments, etc?)
-We have Stefan Thylander on bass and Johannes Lindström on drums. I play guitar and sing. On our upcoming debutalbum you will also hear Martin Zettmar playing guitar. He’s been a member of the
band but decided to leave us for his own project.Now we will continue with just the three of us and it can’t be more oldschool thrash metal than that!

2. Dark Recollections: give us a brief band bio.
-I formed the band together with Paloma Estrada in december 2005. She was the singer then and I played guitar only. Stefan joined us a few months later in 2006. We immidiatly started to write our
own songs but I think it wasn’t until Paloma left and we decided to have me on vocals that we developed our style more into thrash metal than as we played back then – heavy metal. We’ve had a
great time during these years, played with several great musicians and released the demos “Blade of the Sacrificer” – 2008 and “The Evil has Arrived” – 2009 wich got great respons from people,
more than we could ever expect.
We found our drummer Johannes just a year ago and signed a record contract with Infernö Records a few weeks later. The last autumn we spend in the studio “Garaget” recording our songs and we hope for a
release quite soon!

3. Dark Recollections: how did the different band members meet, how hard was it
to find proper band members?
-It’s hard to find the right members, it’s hard to find people that has the same goals and interests in the band. Most of the memebrs we had in Tyranex was found through adds on internet.
Everyone we had has put their mark on this band and has put us forward in different kinds of way but unlyckily it has not worked all the way for everyone. Some grows up, prioritates other things or
other bandprojects, or some just feels that it’s not right anymore and wants to do something else.

4. Dark Recollections: what have you released so far, what has the response been like?
-See question #2

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your last demo “the evil has arrived”
-It was the second demo we did that we officially released. It comes with coverartwork and labelprint. We recorded it in our rehearsalstudio in 2008 and released it 2009. On that one our former drummer
Tuukka Franck is playing drums, inspired of black and death metal you can hear blastbeats in parts of the songs.
The memories about recording that one was that it took so much time and energy since we did everything ourselves except for the mixing which we did together with our friend Stefan Ekström.
We also re-recorded the song “Blade of the Sacrificer” but I think the version that’s on the earlier demo is better. The song that has got most positive response is the third track – “Spit Back” which came as a
surpirse to me, I wasn’t sure to put it on the demo because I didn’t like it that much.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “spit back”, what inspired its lyrics?
-The lyrics is about people that stand outside the society, or more like: people who are abnormal to the societies boundaries, people that will never fit and will never be one like “the others”.
They have probably taken so much pain and shit from assholes around them and some will continue to do that the rest of their lives. This song is an encourage to everyone that felt mistreated, either if you
look different, behave different or just doesn’t wear the “right” clothes. The song is about to not just let it go, not accept it, instead – stand up for your rights and spit back in their faces.

7. Dark Recollections: talk about your upcoming Cd release.(name ,who will release,
date of release)
-I wont tell you the name yet but it will contain 9 new tracks and cool coverartwork by Sebastian Ramstedt and of course the cover will include our very own Sacrificer.It wil be released at Inferno records
in CD format. Right now we’re mastering the music and working on layout. But I believe it will go to press very soon and hopefully you’ll have it in your hands not too long from now.

8. Dark Recollections: what are some of the bands you listen to, that perhaps helped
influence your sound?
-The number one influence is and always will be – Iron Maiden. We take alot od inspiration from the NWOBHM bands. But of course we also listen to the german thrash bands Kreator, destruction, Sodom.

9. Dark Recollections: what can a fan expect at a Tyranex show, how does the crowd
react to your music?
-We’ve been lucky having great audience when we play live. People raise their fists in the air and bang their heads and sings along. We’re fighting for getting people standing in the back to
join the frontrow instead. We are working our asses of on stage and we expect the crowd to do that to! Going on a Tyranex you’ll experience thrash metal with fury and energy, we don’t just stand still and
look bored, when we’re on stage we’re really showing that we love it!

10.Dark Recollections: what instruments of torture are used to achieve your sound?
-I don’t belive it’s the instruments that make the sound, it’s how you play it!

11. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to release your demos on Cd or Lp?
-Yeah but we said no. We released it on cd by ourselves.

2. Dark Recollections:Give us a brief band bio.
- I (Hades) create the band at the December winter moon of 2005 and in the beginning it started as a one man band, only me playing some dirty Venom/Hellhammer riffs and after I write couple of tracks I met Predator and Pwcc maniac which was also into this kind of old school black metal style, so we started rehearsing those tracks in the local studio until we recorded our first demo (the beginning of the end) which was like a Evil punk or something inspired by (old) Venom, Discharge, old Bulldozer, some Carpathian Forest and stuff like that.!! We released the demo 1 year after on tape and limited cd format!! After that these guys leaved the band and 1-2 mothns later I found 2 new members Disaster on bass and Minion of the anti-christ on drums and we start rehearsing some new tracks that I was working on at that time..!! Then after one year we recorded our debut full-length record called (Second coming, Second crucifixion) and couple of months after that, we release it on Cd and limited Lp format from Evil Spell/Undercover records Germany!! In those 5-6 years till now we played couple of gigs together with bands like Savage Grace, Exumer, Flames (Gre), Impaled Nazarene, Inquisition, Ravencult and a few more!! 4. Dark Recollections:What kind of response did your debut demo receive, is it still available, will it ever be re-released?

- Well I don’t really care what people think about our music! First I play for me and then if someone like the music that’s ok, if they don’t like it it’s also ok!! This is because we are playing for only a few, for those who support the cult and the real metal sound and attitude!
We don’t want to be a mainstream band and play for every stupid faggot out there!!! Our massage is for only a few and those few persons know very well where they can find us..!!
The response of the demo was great!! And I am very happy that some people are still listening to this primitive black metal style..!! Yes I think that it’s still available on tape format! We used 2 tracks from that demo as a bonus tracks for the LP format of our debut album..!! I don’t know if we are going release again this demo, but maybe we can use some tracks in the future for some best of compilation or something..!! Who knows..!!

5. Dark Recollections: Talk about your debut Cd” second coming, second crucifixion”

- I will tell you about the LP and not for the CD, because I like more the sound of the vinyl! It fits much more with the 80’s feeling of the record!!
The debut album is some kind of Black thrashing Rock ‘n Roll, inspired by Motorhead, old Venom, Celtic frost, Aura noir, Darkthrone, Inepsy(Can), Gehennah(Swe), Bathory and many more!!! So I think that people who worship this bands and this kind of old school black metal style will also like our record for sure..!! Just remember how the black metal sounds in the 80’s and you will understand what the record is all about..!! It’s fuckin Evil Rock n’ Roll..!!
Maybe next time we will have even more old and dirty production…!!!

- This track is total inspired by Aura noir, Sarcofago, old Sepultura and maybe Vulcano(Bra)…!!
Black metal rust is a track which was create to remind you how the black metal sounded at the middle 80’s and that even after so many years there are people who support the old way of playing heavy metal…!! It’s the Rust against the new modern shity/trigger blast beat metal bands with crystal clear productions and soulless music…!!!
The lyrics are for those with satanic lust in their hearts and for those who hate the dream of heaven..!!!

- Yes we had, but I didn’t want to sign a contract with them…!!! Evil spell records were one of the (top of the list) records labels that we wanted to make a deal..!! But who knows maybe in the future we may make some deal with a label outside Europe..!! You never know!!!

8. Dark Recollections: Not many bands out there play your style of music… what or who would you say has been the biggest influence in your music?

- I’m listening to a lot of different kinds of music so I can’t tell you which are the biggest influences for me, but through all this years I was listening to a lot of Bathory, Venom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, Von, Mayhem, Sarcofago, Mercyful fate, Possessed, old Slayer, old Sodom, old Destuction, old Sepultura, Aura noir, Zemial, Nifelheim and A LOT of MOTORHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
But I think that in nowadays the underground metal scene is much stronger than 10 years before!!! Now we have a lot of new bands which are supporting the old way of playing metal..!! And I’m very happy about that because the real metal lives after so many years!!!
In nowadays there are a lot of “new” great old school metal bands like Nekromantheon(Nor), Midnight(Usa), Bastard priest(Swe), OLD(Ger), Power from Hell(Bra), Deathhammer(Nor), Teitanblood(Spa), Vomitor(Aus), Antichrist(Swe), Trench hell(Aus), Apokalyptic Raids(Bra), Cruel force(Ger), Heretic (Nld), Ravencult(Gre), Toxic Holocaust(Usa), Nocturnal(Ger), Revenge(Gre), Blizzard(Ger), Nattefrost(Nor) and fuckin many more…!!!

9. Dark Recollections: What is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend?

- Here in Greece the scene is not very big, but we have couple of very good bands!!!
Bands like Zemial, Revencult, Goatvomit, Embrace of Thorns, Winterdemons, Nadiwrath, Revenge, Witchcurse, Nocturnal vomit, Slaughtered Priest, Necrohell, Convixion and maybe a few more..!! But here there is a lot of hypocrisy and there is not much support for the underground metal scene!!! It’s full with trendy fuckin posers which doesn’t have a clue of what real metal is all about!!!
Beat the posers down…!!! Aaaaaaaaarrggghhhh!!!!!!

10. Dark Recollections: What is your opinion on bands like Rotting Christ and Sepultura who used to be cult bands when they began and now are sell outs?

- I’ve never been a Rotting Christ fan!!! I like a lot their first demos and maybe some tracks from their debut album, but I have a lot of respect for them, because they were the first Greek band that were into the extreme metal…!!
And about Sepultura I’m very into their first records like the great Ep Bestial devastation, Morbid visions, Schizophrenia (HELL YEAH), Beneath the remains and couple of tracks from the Arise record!! So as you see I’m very collective with the music that I am listening to, that’s why I know very well to separate the true from the false for my opinion!!
Those 2 bands have changed a lot through all those years and for me their new albums have nothing to give! Someone maybe will like their new records, but for me they sucks and I prefer listening to their old records which still have something to give me..!!
I support the regression and not the progression in the nowadays music industry..!!!

11. Dark Recollections: Is Omega a fulltime band or just a studio project?

- ohhh it’s sure that it is a fulltime band, but I don’t know what the future will bring!
If I feel that I have nothing more to give, I will stop playing and just do something else!!
I prefer this instead to record a crap album and loose the meaning that I had from the beginning!!! But now I feel strong then ever and ready to set the world on fire..!!!

1. Dark Recollections: For those not familiar with the infernal beast known
as Manticore, introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments,etc)
Hails! Manticore is comprised of Naberius (guitar/vox), Ixitichitl (bass/vox) and the Maggot Wrangler (drums-studio) We have a friend helping out on live drums at the moment but are looking for a full time drummer to play live and record in the future.

2. Dark Recollections: give us a brief band bio.
Manticore was formed in 2000 by myself and Satanel(gtr/vox), adding the Wrangler within months. From there we recorded the “Ritual Cleansing of the Whore” demo, “Bowels of the Holy” and “For Rats and Plague” LP’s. At that time I left and was replaced by Duaniac, 3 yrs later, I return, Duaniac goes on to guitar and Satanel leaves for personal reasons. After a couple years of playing live, Duaniac leaves and Naberius was brought aboard.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?
The recording line-up has been together for 2 years now.

4.Dark Recollections: what have you released so far, what has response been like with each release?
So far the responses to all of our releases has been pretty decent. I don’t really care too much about any of that, this is done for us.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your latest Cd “for rats and plague”
It was a return to a more filthy sound for us. We went back and dug out some of the sounds of the bands that made us all want to play in the first place; Archgoat, Sarcofago, Black Crucifixion. So it was more stripped down and a lot thicker than Bowels of the Holy was.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “liturgical desecration” about, what inspired its lyrics?
Liturgical Desecration is about blaspheming the christian religious services, making a mockery of their values, and offering the true flesh and blood of their fallen dog. The lyrics are inspired by my extreme hatred of blind followers, especially those who claim to be above the rest of the filth they are part of.

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for “for rats and plague”?
The artwork was done by Eric Horrorval from Hells Headbangers, they are good friends and live just miles from us.

8. Dark Recollections: can we expect a new Cd from Manticore in the near future?
Right now we are waiting for artwork and final recordings to be finished for 2 new 7″s, one a split with Necroholocaust on Iron Bonehead, and one on Bleak Bone Mortualia, both due out sometime by summer.

9. Dark Recollections: last time you played in California you opened for Nifelheim, what was that
like for you, what was the fans reaction to your set?
That was a great show, it was also with Morbosidad, Sanguis Imperum, and Sadistic Intent. We had a killer time going crazy in LA with alot of good friends and true maniacs. It seemed like people were enjoying our blasphemies, alot of people were going crazy while we played.

10. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to tour outside of U.S.A?
We toured Europe way back in 02, and Mexico in the spring of 2010, but as of right now, we are not playing any shows outside of the US. We have talked about some things, and will keep people posted if anything becomes official.

11. Dark Recollections: anyone in the band involved in other projects besides Manticore?
Naberius has a project that he started after leaving Baphomet’s Horns, but to date has not released anything. I am also playing bass in Embalmer currently.

Dracena interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: For those not familiar with Dracena give us a brief bio.

Dracena was formed in 1994 in Gothenburg (SWE). At the beginning it consisted of only female members, but after some line-up changes the band ended up with a male drummer in 1998. We have released 3 demos (1997,1999, 2001) and one full length album (2006). During the years we have also had live appearances supporting bands as Lord Belial, Agathodaimon, Ancient, Sacramentum, Ancients Rebirth, SiebenbŸrgen…

2. Dark Recollections: talk about your demos and Ep you released… what kind of response

did they get from the fans… are they still available?

- All demos and the 7″ are sold out long time ago but are available as MP3 downloads from www.dracena.se. They all had a very good response both from the press and the fans. The first demo was released as a cassette of 100 copies total, called Demo’97. Second demo Demonic Women was recorded in 1999 by Andy La Roque at Los Angereds recordings and released as a CDR-demo and 7″ red vinyl. Third demo was named Labyrinth of Darkness and released in 2001, also as a CDR.

3. Dark Recollections: would you consider releasing demos and Ep on Cd?

- I have had offers throughout the years to have all the demos re-released as a CD-collection, but I would like to do that myself some day and we’ll see if that will ever happen

4. Dark Recollections:Dracena used to be a band at some point… what happened to other members, have you had any luck finding replacements?

- The other members chose to participate in other projects rather than to continue with Dracena. Emma (guitar) became the bass player of Runemagick, sa (bass) had a few other projects on the side as well, and Mojjo (drums) also played with a lot of other bands such as Engel, Deathwitch, Runemagick etc. I am activeley searching new members and I have a few in line for the up coming record.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut Cd “Infernal Damnation” what kind of response

did it get, who released it, is it still available?

- – The album was an independent release. I recorded the album myself, did all the vocals and played all the instruments except for the drums which was played by Mojjo The full length is still available to buy, also through www.dracena.se. The album was voted “Demo of the month” in German magazine Rock Hard (demo as it is an independent release) and it recevied a great respons from the fans as well.

6. Dark Recollections: when you went into the studio to record album , did you get any help

from friends in other bands, or did you handle all instruments, was what is it

like recording and how long did recording process take?

- I wrote all the music and lyrics and did a pre-recording at home using a drum machine. I asked Mojjo to play the drums and gave him the recording to listen to and to learn the songs. Then we went to the studio and he played the drums and I did all the other stuff. The drums was recorded in one day, the other instruments maybe 1.5 day. Then I used a friends home-studio to record the vocals as I wanted time to get good vocals and to avoid to wear out the voice and we recorded 2 vocal tracks per session. So there’s a lot of space and time in this recording

7. Dark Recollections: what is the song “Purified in Pain” about, what inspired its lyrics?

- The whole album is written as a story inspired by Dante’s Inferno, a person who crosses over to Hell and what happens there. Purified in Pain is the moment of the arrival to Hell, the doubts appears and the regrets of why she ended up here. Also she is struck by the insight that this is where she will spend the eternity to come.

8. Dark Recollections: talk about some of the projekts, bands you are or were involved with?

- i have a band called Necrohell (SWE) which recorded a mini CD in 2002 (Rise the Shadow Within) containing of 5 songs. The album is said to be a cross between very early Bathory and Dark Throne. I had the next mini-CD written in 2003-2004, but never came around to record them. I opened up the project again a few months back and hope to have all songs recorded soon. I did some vocal appearances with Decayed (POR) in 2004, played the guitar for Deathwitch in 1996 and Pagan Rites in 2005 and did some live gigs with Witchblood last December, 2010.

9. Dark Recollections: It’s been almost 3 years since your debut Cd was released any plans

to record again , new songs, ep, Cd ?

- New songs are written and pre-recorded. I am now working with all arrangements and lyrics for the songs and when all is set I engage the new members and book the studio. The material is for a full lenght and it will sound a lot like Infernal Damnation, with a lot of infulences from the early 80′s!

10. Dark Recollections: what is your opinion on old school death metal making a comeback, any

new bands you like?

- I’ve never been a fan of the Death Metal scene, so I don’t have that much to add to the subject

11. Dark Recollections: do you got to metal shows much, if so., what was the last show you went to?

- Last show was my own gigs with Witchblood, supporting Total Hate and 4 other bands in Holland and Germany. I try to go to gigs as soon as there is a good band coming here and I also try to make it to a lot of the Open Airs throughot Euorope.

12.Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live any new bands you recommend checking out,

have you heard the latest Pagan Rites cd?

- I recently moved to Stockholm and to be honest I haven’t had time to get into the scene up here yet hehe. But I do notice there are a lot of gigs both of bigger and smaller bands most of the time. Can’t say that I have any new band to recommend either as I am still haunting the 80′s Nopes, haven’t heard the latest PR CD ether.

0xist interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the doomed entity known as 0xist,
introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)

Jani: 0 X í S T are Jani Koskela – Guitar & Vocals, Henrik Hajanti – Guitar, Ossi Leino – Bass guitar, Mikael Ahlstén – Drums. The band name is pronounced as “zero exist” and we play heavy dark metal exclusively.

2. Dark Recollections: how hard was it to find suitable band members ?

Jani: It took some time to get things started. I started the search for members in early 2009, when 0xíst myspace page was launched and the first tentative demos were posted online. Our original drummer Andy Koski-Semmens was one of the first to comment there, but we didn’t talk about him joining 0xíst until a few months later. At that point Ossi had already announced his will to play bass for 0xíst. Around the time when we started to rehearse as a band, Ossi recommended us to try Henrik to play the other guitar. Andy decided to leave the band in late 2010 and since we all knew Mikael, we decided to ask him to play the drums. One could say that things have been progressing quite smoothly.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?

Jani: Since Mikael joined us in November 2010.

4. Dark Recollections: was a demo released prior to debut MCd?

Jani: No, “Unveiling the Shadow World” was our first release. We went to record it in September 2009 and had already decided to release it as a CDEP. Before releasing it by ourselves we decided to check if any label would be interested in putting it out. Ostra Records released the CDEP in April 2010.
After that we recorded a two track demo and released it as a limited edition CDr demo in October 2010. That demo is now sold out, but both of the tracks are going be released as reworked versions on our debut album.
I did record demos of the songs “Gazing into the Void” and “One Over Infinity” in 2008. They were released on 0xíst myspace while I was searching for members, but they were never officially released on CDr.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut MCd “unveiling the shadow world”

Jani: It features 4 tracks and in total 24 minutes of music. The opener of the MCD, “Gazing into the Void”, was the first track that 0xíst ever completed and the second one “Kingdom of Slumber” came together just a few weeks before we went to the studio. “One Over Infinity” is another oldie and quite a basic 0xíst track that underlines the heaviness of our sound. The closing song “Unveil the Shadow World” is a bit more epic tune and has a bit more dynamic song structure compared to the rest of the songs. I think that each song manages to deliver the feeling that we aim to create.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “one over infinity” about, what inspired its lyrics?

Jani: It’s about the becoming of what a person is and will be, about being aware of what you are and also about progression. It refers to the same theme that our band name refers to; 0xíst can mean a state in which nothing exist, or a state of (all) awareness – you choose.

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for Mcd?

Jani: It’s made by a French graphic artist whom we know as Yamaneko. Jean-yves of Ostra Records presented him to us and we like his craft alot. The work is based on his vision.

8. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to release a full Cd yet?

Jani: Yes, we had a few to choose from, but we decided to stay with Ostra Records. We feel much honored about the fact that they have trusted in us since the very beginning and that they decided to release “Unveiling the Shadow World” CDEP even before we had released a demo. We think that they deserve to release the full-length CD as well.

9. Dark Recollections: not many bands out there play your style of music, in your opinion,
is it easier or harder to play your kind of music , as compared to say thrash or black metal?

Jani: It’s not hard; you only have to be focused on what you do and to do what you are here for. If you choose to define yourself as Dark Metal, your music also has to live up to that description and to deliver the right kind of feeling. Therefore I must say that I haven’t really discovered too many bands that I could truly define as dark metal. There are bands to whose works we can relate to in a certain level, such as Triptykon, Bethlehem, Deinonychus, Ajattara, Root, Morbid, early Samael and so on.

10. Dark Recollections: anyone in the band involved in other projekts besides 0xist?

Jani: I play rhythm guitar for Saattue. Mikael also used to be in that band.

11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend?

Jani: You would be surprised of all things lurking hidden in the dark cellars of Riihimäki and close by areas. You must have heard of Skepticism and maybe also of late Colosseum and Yearning. We have got here Syven, Thromdarr, Apocryphal Voice, Anger Cell, Saattue, Lähdön Aika, Murdershock, Seal of Beleth and lots of other groups who are very good at what they do.
Riihimäki always had a small but a capable scene, when it comes to underground music and to do it by yourselves activities. That is all you need – to be able to make yourself feel comfortable. This is not the place where you can grow big over a night, but it won’t be stopping you from getting to the other end of the world, if that is where you wish to go.

Mordant: It is about persons with a broken souls, who finally finds life force in the power of evil, which give the power to govern themselves and not let anyone or anything come in and control their life.
