GRAVEYARD(Spa) interview

GRAVEYARD interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: Hails… for those not familiar with Graveyard introduce the band.
GRAVEYARD: Hails Wilhelm!!! Graveyard is an old school death metal band from Spain. Band
was formed on 2007. J Bastard guitar, Julkarn bass and vox, Gusi on drums and SBE second guitar.

2. Dark Recollections: give us a brief band bio.
GRAVEYARD: the beginnimg of the band go back to around 2001/2002. Back then we made up the band logo,
we made up lots of riffs, and even made a song… but we kind of got stuck because we could not find
a drummer that understood the concept of the band. Graveyard was put on hold due to the fact that
we didn’t want to use a drum machine. It wasn’t until 2007 that we found Gusi our drummer. As I got to
know him I asked him to join Graveyard, we went to an old garage to rehearse abnd in 2 days we made up
the songs and recorded our debut demo “Into the Mausoleum”. About a month after we recorded demo, SBE
joined as second guitar player. Since then we have played lots of shows, recorded songs for a couple
of splits Eps and finally recorded our debut “One with the Dead”.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?
GRAVEYARD: our line up has been the same for the last for years…no changes have been made and we
hope to stay that way. For us is very important that each member in the band fits a personal/musical
profile. Not many people in Barcelona could fit this profile… it’s not like we want to be elists
or anything similar. Its not about a physical or philosofic profile, but more like a perfect fit
with taste in music we share.

4. Dark Recollections:tell us about what you have released so far?
GRAVEYARD: so far we have released our demo/promo cd “Into the Mausoleum” , which was later released
on MCd, MLP, and cassette with bonus tracks for each individual release and fully remastered. After that
we released two splits with Death Evokation and Terrorist and after that our debut Cd “One with the Dead”
which was released on digipack, regular Cd and tape formats. (with ectra tracks on digipack and Lp release)
Our new MCd/MLp “the altar of sculpted skulls” should be out soon, which will be followed by a split Ep with
Winterwolf, a split tape with Necro, another split 7″ ep with Redimoni and an official bootleg on vinyl.
2011 should be an interesting year for Graveyard and luckily by the end of the year, we should have our second
Lp on the streets.

5. Dark Recollections: what was the reaction like to your debut demo “into the mausoleum”?
GRAVEYARD : it could sound exagerated and typical when i say it, but the reaction to demo was exceptional. Now
in 2011 the old school death metal moment is the topic in everybody’s mouth, but back in 2007 there weere few bands
playing this type of music and in Spain we were the only band playing this type of music. Graveyard and our demo were
conceived like many projects in this style of music. When we saw the reaction of the fans to our music, we decided to
make Graveyard a serious project, to rehearse, find new members for the band, and release more music like it. In
the beginning we were only planning on releasing just the one demo and nothing more.

6. Dark Recollections: talk about your new Cd “One with the Dead” (where was it recorded, who released it, etc ?)
<GRAVEYARD: its not really new anymore… it was recoded in 2009 and released the same year. It was recorded in Moontower
studios (where bands like Primigenium, Ouija, Korgull the Exterminator, Warchetype, Ataraxy, Morbid Flesh and Teitan Blood
have also recorded) on April , May and was mastered at Unisound studios by Dan Swano. It was released in September of the same year
by Black Seed Productions on Cd and Digipack, the tape version was released by french label Ars Funebris and few months later the vinyl
version was released on by Antichristian Front Records on October 2010.

7. Dark Recollections: what is the song "Caro Data Verminus" (translate title), and what inspired its lyrics?
GRAVEYARD: (answered by Julkarn) "Caro Data Verminus" translates to "flesh given to worms" and is the latin expression where the word
"cadaver" comes from. The lyrics of course talk about death, the different things that happen to a cadaver after being put six feet under.
All of Graveyard's lyrics talk about death, what I consider an important theme on a death metal band, I consider this song a good example.

8. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for "One with the Dead" ?
GRAVEYARD: the cover was made by a friend of the band Roberto Fernandez Giordano.( who has done tattoos for me JB and Julkarn). The theme
and layout was done by Alex from Black Mass Records. For our new MCd/MLp artwork will be done by Matt Carr from Putrid Gore art.(who has done
covers for Hooded Menace, Asphyx, Coffins, Cianide, Impetigo and Autopsy) It os comimg out killer.

9. Dark Recollections: Graveyard play live much, what are some of the bands you have shared the stage with?
GRAVEYARD: Over the last few years we had the opportunity to share the stage with lots of bands. We have played with Proclamation, Machetazo,
Looking for an answer, Korgull the Exterminator, Profundis Tenebrarum, Decapitated Christ, Spellcraft, and Ered from Spain. We have played with
international bands like Lie in Ruins, Nominon, Tormented, Necros Christos, Kaamos, Morbosidad, Necroccultus, Artillery, Dead Congregation, Asphyx,
Necrodeath, Demigod, Hail of Bullets, Nifelheim, Horrid, Hate, Interment, etc.

10. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to play outside of Spain?
GRAVEYARD: we have played in Barroselas Fest(portugal) , France, Italy, Germany, and a small tour of Sweden with Nominon. We hope that from now on
we will be able to play more outside of Spain. We will soon announce Graveyard being signed to a major record label that we hope is going to take
us farther, and take the band touring outside of our borders.

11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend checking out?
GRAVEYARD: the Spanish scene has gotten bigger over the last few years, compared to what it was back in the 90s. Now there is lpts of bands from Spain
making it big outside of Spain like Teitanblood, Foscor, Proclamation, Korgull, Machetazo, Haemhorrage, Avulsed, etc. I would recommend Ered , where our
guitarist SBE also plays… their new Cd "Goatworshipping metal" kicks ass!!! Our drummer Gussi also plays in Insulters a dirty black thrash band..
I recommend you check them out. Soon I will release the new Wolfhead(rock/stoner/doom/heavy) with Doomentia records and Julkarn will release the new
Banished deom Inferno(where he plays with members of Wormed, Machetazo and Balmog). The new Of Darkness where me and Julkarn also play will soon be released.

12. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available from the band?(list items and prices)
GRAVEYARD: we got some t-shirts and some copies of "One with the Dead" Lps.

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview.
GRAVEYARD: Your welcome Wilhelm, thank YOU for the interview, its been great. Check out our website :, and
we will soon announce who will release our new MCd/MLp "The Altar of Sculpted Skulls" with four new songs(a thousand times superior to anything released so far) and
two old songs remixed… Cheers, Hail Death!!!
