Dracena interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: For those not familiar with Dracena give us a brief bio.

Dracena was formed in 1994 in Gothenburg (SWE). At the beginning it consisted of only female members, but after some line-up changes the band ended up with a male drummer in 1998. We have released 3 demos (1997,1999, 2001) and one full length album (2006). During the years we have also had live appearances supporting bands as Lord Belial, Agathodaimon, Ancient, Sacramentum, Ancients Rebirth, SiebenbŸrgen…

2. Dark Recollections: talk about your demos and Ep you released… what kind of response

did they get from the fans… are they still available?

– All demos and the 7″ are sold out long time ago but are available as MP3 downloads from http://www.dracena.se. They all had a very good response both from the press and the fans. The first demo was released as a cassette of 100 copies total, called Demo’97. Second demo Demonic Women was recorded in 1999 by Andy La Roque at Los Angereds recordings and released as a CDR-demo and 7″ red vinyl. Third demo was named Labyrinth of Darkness and released in 2001, also as a CDR.

3. Dark Recollections: would you consider releasing demos and Ep on Cd?

– I have had offers throughout the years to have all the demos re-released as a CD-collection, but I would like to do that myself some day and we’ll see if that will ever happen 😉

4. Dark Recollections:Dracena used to be a band at some point… what happened to other members, have you had any luck finding replacements?

– The other members chose to participate in other projects rather than to continue with Dracena. Emma (guitar) became the bass player of Runemagick, sa (bass) had a few other projects on the side as well, and Mojjo (drums) also played with a lot of other bands such as Engel, Deathwitch, Runemagick etc. I am activeley searching new members and I have a few in line for the up coming record.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut Cd “Infernal Damnation” what kind of response

did it get, who released it, is it still available?

– – The album was an independent release. I recorded the album myself, did all the vocals and played all the instruments except for the drums which was played by Mojjo 🙂 The full length is still available to buy, also through http://www.dracena.se. The album was voted “Demo of the month” in German magazine Rock Hard (demo as it is an independent release) and it recevied a great respons from the fans as well.

6. Dark Recollections: when you went into the studio to record album , did you get any help

from friends in other bands, or did you handle all instruments, was what is it

like recording and how long did recording process take?

– I wrote all the music and lyrics and did a pre-recording at home using a drum machine. I asked Mojjo to play the drums and gave him the recording to listen to and to learn the songs. Then we went to the studio and he played the drums and I did all the other stuff. The drums was recorded in one day, the other instruments maybe 1.5 day. Then I used a friends home-studio to record the vocals as I wanted time to get good vocals and to avoid to wear out the voice and we recorded 2 vocal tracks per session. So there’s a lot of space and time in this recording 🙂

7. Dark Recollections: what is the song “Purified in Pain” about, what inspired its lyrics?

– The whole album is written as a story inspired by Dante’s Inferno, a person who crosses over to Hell and what happens there. Purified in Pain is the moment of the arrival to Hell, the doubts appears and the regrets of why she ended up here. Also she is struck by the insight that this is where she will spend the eternity to come.

8. Dark Recollections: talk about some of the projekts, bands you are or were involved with?

– i have a band called Necrohell (SWE) which recorded a mini CD in 2002 (Rise the Shadow Within) containing of 5 songs. The album is said to be a cross between very early Bathory and Dark Throne. I had the next mini-CD written in 2003-2004, but never came around to record them. I opened up the project again a few months back and hope to have all songs recorded soon. I did some vocal appearances with Decayed (POR) in 2004, played the guitar for Deathwitch in 1996 and Pagan Rites in 2005 and did some live gigs with Witchblood last December, 2010.

9. Dark Recollections: It’s been almost 3 years since your debut Cd was released any plans

to record again , new songs, ep, Cd ?

– New songs are written and pre-recorded. I am now working with all arrangements and lyrics for the songs and when all is set I engage the new members and book the studio. The material is for a full lenght and it will sound a lot like Infernal Damnation, with a lot of infulences from the early 80’s!

10. Dark Recollections: what is your opinion on old school death metal making a comeback, any

new bands you like?

– I’ve never been a fan of the Death Metal scene, so I don’t have that much to add to the subject 🙂

11. Dark Recollections: do you got to metal shows much, if so., what was the last show you went to?

– Last show was my own gigs with Witchblood, supporting Total Hate and 4 other bands in Holland and Germany. I try to go to gigs as soon as there is a good band coming here and I also try to make it to a lot of the Open Airs throughot Euorope.

12.Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live any new bands you recommend checking out,

have you heard the latest Pagan Rites cd?

– I recently moved to Stockholm and to be honest I haven’t had time to get into the scene up here yet hehe. But I do notice there are a lot of gigs both of bigger and smaller bands most of the time. Can’t say that I have any new band to recommend either as I am still haunting the 80’s 😉 Nopes, haven’t heard the latest PR CD ether.

13. Dark Recollections: any comments, last words? thanks for the interview

– Keep the blood running down the screams! Thanx for the interview !..!

0xist(fin) Interview

Posted in magazines and e=zines, underground musak, web publication on February 12, 2011 by Dark Recollections 'zine

0xist interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the doomed entity known as 0xist,
introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)

Jani: 0 X í S T are Jani Koskela – Guitar & Vocals, Henrik Hajanti – Guitar, Ossi Leino – Bass guitar, Mikael Ahlstén – Drums. The band name is pronounced as “zero exist” and we play heavy dark metal exclusively.

2. Dark Recollections: how hard was it to find suitable band members ?

Jani: It took some time to get things started. I started the search for members in early 2009, when 0xíst myspace page was launched and the first tentative demos were posted online. Our original drummer Andy Koski-Semmens was one of the first to comment there, but we didn’t talk about him joining 0xíst until a few months later. At that point Ossi had already announced his will to play bass for 0xíst. Around the time when we started to rehearse as a band, Ossi recommended us to try Henrik to play the other guitar. Andy decided to leave the band in late 2010 and since we all knew Mikael, we decided to ask him to play the drums. One could say that things have been progressing quite smoothly.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?

Jani: Since Mikael joined us in November 2010.

4. Dark Recollections: was a demo released prior to debut MCd?

Jani: No, “Unveiling the Shadow World” was our first release. We went to record it in September 2009 and had already decided to release it as a CDEP. Before releasing it by ourselves we decided to check if any label would be interested in putting it out. Ostra Records released the CDEP in April 2010.
After that we recorded a two track demo and released it as a limited edition CDr demo in October 2010. That demo is now sold out, but both of the tracks are going be released as reworked versions on our debut album.
I did record demos of the songs “Gazing into the Void” and “One Over Infinity” in 2008. They were released on 0xíst myspace while I was searching for members, but they were never officially released on CDr.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut MCd “unveiling the shadow world”

Jani: It features 4 tracks and in total 24 minutes of music. The opener of the MCD, “Gazing into the Void”, was the first track that 0xíst ever completed and the second one “Kingdom of Slumber” came together just a few weeks before we went to the studio. “One Over Infinity” is another oldie and quite a basic 0xíst track that underlines the heaviness of our sound. The closing song “Unveil the Shadow World” is a bit more epic tune and has a bit more dynamic song structure compared to the rest of the songs. I think that each song manages to deliver the feeling that we aim to create.

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “one over infinity” about, what inspired its lyrics?

Jani: It’s about the becoming of what a person is and will be, about being aware of what you are and also about progression. It refers to the same theme that our band name refers to; 0xíst can mean a state in which nothing exist, or a state of (all) awareness – you choose.

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for Mcd?

Jani: It’s made by a French graphic artist whom we know as Yamaneko. Jean-yves of Ostra Records presented him to us and we like his craft alot. The work is based on his vision.

8. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to release a full Cd yet?

Jani: Yes, we had a few to choose from, but we decided to stay with Ostra Records. We feel much honored about the fact that they have trusted in us since the very beginning and that they decided to release “Unveiling the Shadow World” CDEP even before we had released a demo. We think that they deserve to release the full-length CD as well.

9. Dark Recollections: not many bands out there play your style of music, in your opinion,
is it easier or harder to play your kind of music , as compared to say thrash or black metal?

Jani: It’s not hard; you only have to be focused on what you do and to do what you are here for. If you choose to define yourself as Dark Metal, your music also has to live up to that description and to deliver the right kind of feeling. Therefore I must say that I haven’t really discovered too many bands that I could truly define as dark metal. There are bands to whose works we can relate to in a certain level, such as Triptykon, Bethlehem, Deinonychus, Ajattara, Root, Morbid, early Samael and so on.

10. Dark Recollections: anyone in the band involved in other projekts besides 0xist?

Jani: I play rhythm guitar for Saattue. Mikael also used to be in that band.

11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend?

Jani: You would be surprised of all things lurking hidden in the dark cellars of Riihimäki and close by areas. You must have heard of Skepticism and maybe also of late Colosseum and Yearning. We have got here Syven, Thromdarr, Apocryphal Voice, Anger Cell, Saattue, Lähdön Aika, Murdershock, Seal of Beleth and lots of other groups who are very good at what they do.
Riihimäki always had a small but a capable scene, when it comes to underground music and to do it by yourselves activities. That is all you need – to be able to make yourself feel comfortable. This is not the place where you can grow big over a night, but it won’t be stopping you from getting to the other end of the world, if that is where you wish to go.

12. Dark Recollections:any merchandise available from the band? (list items and prices)

Jani: The easiest way to check that is to visit our myspace blog. Right now we have the CDEP (8€+p&p), a T-shirt (10€ +p&p) and hoodie (30€ +p&p) available. More items will be added later. http://www.myspace.com/oxist. “Unveiling the Shadow World” CDEP is also available from Ostra Records.

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview

Jani: Thank you very much for the interview. This is actually the first interview that has been submitted to us. At this moment we are recording our debut album and hoping to get it released in the spring 2011.

UNDERGANG(den) Interview

UNDERGANG interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with Undergang, introduce the band.
(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)

– UNDERGANG is A. Dödshjæp on the drums, K. Ondsind on bass and Me, D. Torturdød on guitar and vocals.

2. Dark Recollections: not much is known about Undergang give us a brief band bio.

– We started out playing in the late spring of 2008, after the demise of Realm Of Chaos, a band we’d all played in at different points. We rehearsed quite a lot in the beginning (about 3-5 times a week) and were able to play our first show in the end of August 2008, with Canadian LIMB FROM LIMB at a besement show I put up here in Copenhagen. In September 2008 we recorded a single demo track called “Evigt Lidende”. It was never really released though a made a few dubbed tapes with the track included. We mainly recorded it to present what we had to offer to get gigs and so we did. We played a lot of live shows during the last half of 2008 and recorded our debut full length “Indhentet Af Døden” during the winter 2008/2009. The recordings were all finished in the summer of 2009 and I was about to make it as a promo tape so we could try and get ourselves a record deal to have it released on a 12″. Before I had the tapes dubbed we agreed to have the LP released by the upcoming label Me Saco Un Ojo records from London, who offered us the vinyl deal. We traded, sold and gave the promotapes away as demos and they were all gone way faster than we imagined. The LP was then released in January 2010 after some delays, mainly from our side regarding artwork etc. During the fall of 2009 we agreed to sign a two record deal with Xtreem Music records for the CD release of “I.A.D.” and both LP and CD release of our second full length. All along the way we’ve played a shitload of shows and had a couple of mini-tours in Germany both with ANATOMIA from Japan and our other friends in the local grindcore outfit DEAD INSTRUMENT.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?

– The line up has been the same as now from the very beginning. At first we intended to include a vocalist and another bassist, with K. Ondsind playing rythm guitar at the first rehearsals but later picking up the bass instead. As the people we talked to regarding the bass and vocal duites didn’t show up at the first rehearsals we decided to go for K.Ondsind taking the bass and me doing the vocals along with the guitars. Being only 3 people in band makes a whole lot of things easier, not as many opinions about everything and less people having to take time off from work/studies/private life as if you include more members.

4. Dark Recollections: what is the meaning of the word “Undergang” , why was name chosen?

– UNDERGANG is the Danish tongue for something like “world downfall”. It was the other two guys who came up with the idea of using it as our bandname and I agreed upon it as we all feld like it was suitable for our doomy, rotten death metal.

5. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut demo “indhentent af doden”

– Well, as mentioned before as was never really ment as a demo only. We recorded 7 full tracks with the intension of having it being released as our debut full length LP and later CD. It was recorded over a week or two during the winter of 2008/2009 in a rehearsal room here in Copenhagen, with a friend of ours who at that point has his “studio” placed there. We then had it mixed and mastered there over the next months and if I remember correct it wasn’t all finished till sometime in June 2009. We were all busy and had difficulties finding time along with Morten, the beforementioned sound technician of the recordings, to have the lot mastered. once done I dubbed 100 tapes with all the material from the recordingsession on it and as we already had good a good record deal, we sold them as promos/demos to once interested. They all went pretty fast and to this date I still regret that I didn’t make more tapes back then, but I didn’t have the money for it at the time being. Anyway people intereste dto hear it with way better sound on LP and soon CD too!

6. Dark Recollections: what is the song “forkullede rester” about, translate title, what inspired its lyrics?

– “Forkullede Rester” pretty much means “Charred Remains, so try and guess where the inspiration came from, haha! It about burning to death and all the pain involved…duh!

7. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for demo?

– Pretty much all the UNDERGANG artwork there has been done has been drawn by me, so the cover of the promotape is no exception. We’ve had some inlay artwork for the full length done by Rafal Kruszyk and the front cover of “Indhentet Af Døden” is made by a friend of ours named Jonas Bjerg. He’s a local tattoo artist and my roommate in the past. He did a great job on the cover and we’re all stoked about it to this date, hehe.

8. Dark Recollections: talk about your upcoming debut Cd for xtreem music.

– It’s the long-waited CD version of the full length released by Me Saco Un Ojo records in January 2010. I had some contact to Dave of UNCONSECRATED and he purchased a copy of our promotape. Later he told me that he played it for Dave Rotten of Xtreem Music records and about the same time he wrote us an email asking into releasing “I.A.D.” on CD and when we agreed upon that he offered us a two record-deal which we signed. I think I’ve already said what needs to be said about the debut, 7 tracks tracks of extreme rotten heaviness to blow your speakers off the wall, ugh!

9. Dark Recollections: Undergang get to play live much, what are some of the bands you shared the stage with?

– Yeah, we’ve played tons of show already. May of them have been with punk/hardcore/crust bands in the past, but now we’re starting to get a bit more attention from the metalscene and get to play with more straight-up metal bands. We never really fit the line-ups anyway, hehe. Some of the bands that we’ve played with are HELLBASTARD, NECROVATION, ANATOMIA, HELLSHOCK, AGE, LIMB FROM LIMB, DEAD INSTRUMENT, LOVE POTION, DEATH TOKEN, BLACK BREATH, DEUS OTIOSUS, SCAVENGER BRATS, SEXDROME etc. and Of course we also played with a shitload of amazing DM bands at the Kill-Town Death Fest 2010 and our next shows will be with ANTICHRIST and later on NOMINON.

10. Dark Recollections: have you had any offers to release your demo on cd or Lp?

– Hehe, yeah…Mentioned above.

11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend checking out?

– The metalscene in Denmark isn’t giving birth to that many bands of my interest. The now long-existing CORPUS MORTALE is still great, other than that I’ll recommend CEREKLOTH, STRYCHNOS, DEUS OTIOSUS, LIGFÆRD, DEAD INSTRUMENT, REEFER and probably a few others I can’t remember right now.

12. Dark Recollections: any merchandise available from you? (list items and prices)

– We’ve still got some white shirts with a rotten face and logo on, from M-XL, for 10 euros excl. shipping. Also we’ve just received embroidered lasercut logo patches, they go for 3 euros. We’ll got some “Indhentet Af Døden” CD’s in stock within two weeks and soon the one sided flexi 7″ with the track “Hævntørst” originally released on the “Voices of death” comp. out throw Baphometal records.

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview

– My pleasure, thanks for the cool questions! Nothing left to say than stay tuned for the upcoming split with mighty ANATOMIA on Me Saco Un Ojo records and our second full length on vinyl by the end of 2011 on Xtreem Music records! Fell free to get in touch at – undergang666@care2.com.

Keep on rotting!!!

MOURNER(usa) Interview

MOURNER interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with Mourner, introduce the band.
(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)

Jake Rothlisberger – Drums .. Dylan Simon – Vocals, Echoplex, Drones .. ..Zack Allen – Bass, Tape Loops, Recording/Engineering/Mixing .. .. Mike Meacham – Guitar, Noise, Samples
2. Dark Recollections: not much is not about Mourner give us a brief band bio.

MM:Mourner is a 4 piece group of musicians [the Ghost Crow Collective] bonded by the creation of Doom in its most raw, arcane and nihilistic state … drawing influence from a wide array of musical styles and art, emotions, experiences, the occult & esoteric and an overall bleak and daunting feeling. .. ..
3. Dark Recollections: how would you describe your music to someone who has not heard it yet?

MM:Bleak…sinister and arcane. Vibes of melancholy & nihilism. Anxiety & depression. Desperation…no hope…sensations like swallowing needles. Musically weve been compared to Corrupted, Otesanek, Burning Witch and skyscrapers falling into the ocean.
4. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?

MM:There has always been the same lineup…We have been a collective for 3 years now…finally honing our own sound (see The Death Posture).
5. Dark Recollections: talk about your releases prior to debut Cd, what has the response been like?

MM:To be honest we have not heard much from anyone ha! The response has been positive though when we do hear things. We make this music for ourselves and when we meet or hear from others it is always a pleasure to hear they are like-minded and enjoy our dreadful hymns. We released our EP “Still” on our own on CD and assembled them ourselves in an edition of 333 copies. It was then released officially on LP by the fantastic and very professional label BLACK MASS out of Spain. We then recorded the song The Death Posture as an additional track for the CD version released on Paradigms Recordings (cant say many good things about them to be honest…no promotion, no distribution, not even any reviews anywhere….he made shirts so we are told but we never saw any of them) This song is out best so far and will be featured as our side of a split on an LP with Sewer Goddess. An amazing US project ranging from cold death industrial power electronics to hateful sludge….Brilliant stuff really.
6. Dark Recollections: talk about your debut Cd.

PALLBEARER (usa) Interview

PALLBEARER interview for Dark Recollections 2011

The interview is with Brett Campbell and Joseph Rowland and denoted by initials throughout. thanks!

PALLBEARER interview for Dark Recollections 2011

1. Dark Recollections: for those not familiar with the entity known as Pallbearer,
introduce the band.(who does what, plays what instruments, etc)
[JR] Pallbearer is vocalist/guitarist Brett Campbell, guitarist Devin Holt, and myself, Joseph Rowland, on bass. We’ve been through several different drummers since we started, but our most recent addition is Chuck Schaaf of Deadbird and previously of Rwake.

2. Dark Recollections: not much is known about Pallbearer give us a brief bio.
[JR]Brett and I started Pallbearer in the Autumn of 2008. We had already been playing music together in various forms for several years and it was a very depressing point for both of us during that time.

[BC] We had been playing in a heavy psychedelic free-form band called SPORTS for several years. It had gotten to be a pain in the ass to transport the amount of gear that band required, and we wanted to work on more structured music. Doom and sludge has deep roots in Arkansas and we felt it natural to move into that realm, and it soon became apparent in the music we wrote that Pallbearer was the perfect way of dealing with the pain in each of our lives, as well as a way to challenge ourselves with structure, arrangement and melody, after playing improvised music for so long.

3. Dark Recollections: how long has current line up been together?
[BC]Other than the drummer, we have had the same lineup since basically the inception of the band. It was originally just Joe and me, and Devin joined soon after. Unfortunately we’ve had trouble in the drum department, but Chuck Schaaf from Deadbird has recently joined and we’re hoping this lineup will last. There’s a strong natural chemistry within this incarnation.

[JR]We think it’s important to be of “One Mind” as Saint Vitus once said, and that has affected things line-up-wise so far. We feel there is much strength and passion in our current configuration.

4. Dark Recollections: how would you describe your music to someone who has not heard it yet?
[BC]I’ve never been great at categorizing music I’m involved with. Usually I just tell people it sounds like Black Sabbath or early Judas Priest or something, or that it’s “slow metal”, because most people will just look at you funny if you start dropping subgenre terms.

5. Dark Recollections:talk about your debut demo
[JR]We recorded the demo just to document a few of the songs we had been working on; we never expected it would be as widely heard and accepted as it has become.

6. Dark Recollections:what is the song “devoid of redemption” about, what inspired its lyrics?
[BC] I prefer not to explain the meaning behind my lyrics. The lyrics are generally an outlet for negative emotions, either based on my reaction to a specific event, or a reflection of my overall feelings about the world. I try to channel these into stories that convey these emotions. People should listen to the lyrics and decide what they mean to them personally.

7. Dark Recollections:have you had any offers to release a Cd yet?
[BC] Yes, we are releasing our debut full length CD on Shadow Kingdom Records. It should be out at some point this year.

8. Dark Recollections:is Pallbearer a studio only projekt, do you get to play live?
[JR] We perform live fairly regularly. We have not played outside of Arkansas yet due to our various job or school responsibilities. That will be changing in 2011, as we will be embarking on a small tour, as well as our being invited to play one of the major US doom metal festivals, Days of the Doomed. We hope to have the opportunity to perform at some of the amazing metal festivals held in Europe at some point in the future.

9. Dark Recollections:not many bands out there play your style of music, what is the avarage time
for one of your songs to be written, and approved by everyone in the band?
[JR]It depends on the song. Some songs have come together in a matter of days, while others have taken a year or more to perfect. The amount of time is not significant to us as long as the quality of the music remains.

10. Dark Recollections:what is the scene like where you live, any bands you recommend ?
[BC]The scene has it’s ups and downs, but there are always a few solid to stellar bands around Arkansas. As far as doom-related bands, I’d recommend Shitfire, Zucura, Rwake, Deadbird, and Seahag.

11. Dark Recollections:can we expect any Pallbearer releases in the near future?
[BC] We have an album coming out on Shadow Kingdom, like I said, with re-recorded versions of “The Legend” and “Devoid of Redemption” as well as three newer songs. It is a record of our previous drummer Zach Stine’s last performance with us, and is the culmination of that period of Pallbearer. After months of working on it, it is very close to completion and should be released in the next few months. We’re pretty excited about the way it has been progressing. I think people will be surprised at how massive it sounds.

[JR] Aside from that we’re also slated to do a four-way split with Anhedonist, High Priest and Mourner, and we plan on having an exclusive release with us on our tour. Brett also contributed vocals to the new album “Despond” by the US funeral doom band Loss. That should be coming out this year as well via Profound Lore. We also have some additional ideas in the works, but nothing concrete enough to discuss at this point.

12. Dark Recollections:any merchandise available from the band?
[JR] We have all our merchandise available at pallbearer.bigcartel.com. The selection is a bit small, but we will have new merch available soon.

13. any last words, comments, thanks for the interview
[BC] Thanks for the interest in Pallbearer and keep supporting the underground!

[JR] Thank you, and doom onward!

for those not familiar with the entity known as Pallbearer,

6. what is the song “devoid of redemption” about, what inspired its lyrics?
[BC] I prefer not to explain the meaning behind my lyrics. The lyrics are generally an outlet for negative emotions, either based on my reaction to a specific event, or a reflection of my overall feelings about the world. I try to channel these into stories that convey these emotions. People should listen to the lyrics and decide what they mean to them personally.

7. have you had any offers to release a Cd yet?
[BC] Yes, we are releasing our debut full length CD on Shadow Kingdom Records. It should be out at some point this year.

8. is Pallbearer a studio only projekt, do you get to play live?
[JR] We perform live fairly regularly. We have not played outside of Arkansas yet due to our various job or school responsibilities. That will be changing in 2011, as we will be embarking on a small tour, as well as our being invited to play one of the major US doom metal festivals, Days of the Doomed. We hope to have the opportunity to perform at some of the amazing metal festivals held in Europe at some point in the future.

9. not many bands out there play your style of music, what is the avarage time
for one of your songs to be written, and approved by everyone in the band?

13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments, thanks for the interview
[BC] Thanks for the interest in Pallbearer and keep supporting the underground!

[JR] Thank you, and doom onward!

ANATOMIA(jap) Interview

Posted in magazines and e=zines, underground musak, web publication on February 12, 2011 by Dark Recollections 'zine

1. Dark Recollections: For those not familiar with Anatomia please introduce the band.
ANATOMIA: Thanks a lot for this interview! OK, we started this band back in 2003 after the former TRANSGRESSOR broke up. The line-up since the formation is Jun (ex-Sadondeth, Worm), Yoshio (ex-Necro-E, Transgressor), and me Takashi (ex-Transgressor, Necrophile, Necro-E). We gathered to play pure doom death opposed to the new school form as “brutal death” trend back then! We wanted to play straight-up doom death like we did back in early ’90s.
2. Dark Recollections: Have there been any line up changes?
ANATOMIA: Not at all. We don’t have any line-up changes since the formation back in 2003!
3. Dark Recollections: what has Anatomia released so far… any merchandise available from you?
ANATOMIA: OK, here it is;
– demo CD-R 2003
– Dissected Humanity full CD 2005 (Necroharmonic)
– D.D.D.H. 3-way split CD with COFFINS and GRUDGE 2007 (Grindmind/Obliteration)
– Shred of Putrefaction 10 inch EP 2009 (Nuclear War Now!)
– Human Lust demo tape 2009
– Dissected Alive live LP 2009 (HMSS)
– Dissected Humanity LP 2010 (Nuclear War Now!)
– Merciless Torment split 7 inch EP with OFFAL 2010 (No Posers Please!)
D.D.D.H., Shred of Putrefaction, Human Lust, Merciless Torment split, Dissected Humanity shirts are available for now! Check out our merchandise list at our website http://www.geocities.jp/anatomia_jp
4. Dark Recollections: Have you had any offers to release Anatomia on vinyl?
ANATOMIA: We’ve already got some vinyl releases like Dissected Humanity LP, Shreds of Putrefaction EP, Dissected Alive LP, and split EP with OFFAL! More vinyls are coming out in the future!
5. Dark Recollections: what kind of response did your debut Cd get from the underground scene… is it still available?
ANATOMIA: I think Necroharmonic still stocks that CD. I heard Roy keeps it available all the time and he usually doesn’t limit the number of copies. We’ve got many good reviews for that album so far! Most reviews describes our music as Japanese slower version of Autopsy…
6. Dark Recollections: any releases planned for the near future?
ANATOMIA: Split EP with Decrepitaph is coming out really soon on Nuclear War Now! Productions. NWN! is also making our new shirts with Shreds of Putrefaction artworks! Some more splits are planned and later of this year, we are hoping to do our 2nd full length album too!
7. Dark Recollections: what inspired the lyrics to “suicides”?
ANATOMIA: I tried to make it really sick and disgusting with words describing it. Just inspired by the fact that the increasing number of young people commit suicide.
8. Dark Recollections: were you (drummer) also involved in Transgressor… any plans for a Transgressor re-union?
ANATOMIA: Yes, I was playing in Transgressor and also in Necrophile. It’s really hard to reform Transgressor for now as we don’t feel like doing it without the old original line-up. Our bass player lives in England now…
9. Dark Recollections: death metal seems to be making a comeback … your thoughts on that… favorite bands?
ANATOMIA: My favorites would go too long to mention here… Autopsy, Funebre, Grave, old Death, Necrotomy, Mausoleum, Headrot, Disembowelment, Decomposed, Burial Invocation, Cenotaph, Krypts, Grave Ritual, and more just comes up in my mind. I’m really glad to see many young bands are coming up and playing old school stuffs.
10. Dark Recollections: does Anatomia get to play live … have you had any offers to play outside Japan?
ANATOMIA: Yeah, we played at Kill Town Death Fest 1 last year in Denmark. After the fest, we played 2 shows in Germany. We’ve just got an offer to play in the US this year too but its not confirmed yet. We are arranging it right now. We play in average around 8-10 local live shows in a year.
11. Dark Recollections: what is the scene like where you live… any bands you recommend checking out?
ANATOMIA: It’s pretty good I think. There are so many underground bands and local live shows here. I would recommend bands like Maggut, Taste, Mononofu, Deadly Spawn, Dethbound, Fatal Desolation, Doraid, Butcher ABC, Sex Messiah, etc.
12. Dark Recollections: who did the artwork for “shreds of putrefaction”
ANATOMIA: Putrid did that cover for us! We just gave him the title and the image of the drawing we wanted and he came up with an idea of old splatter film Nest. His works are so amazing!
13. Dark Recollections: any last words, comments? thanks for the interview
ANATOMIA: Thanks again for this killer interview, Wilhelm! We’re having more and more materials coming out soon and hopefully our 2nd full length album will come out this year too! Keep supporting the underground death and doom! Stay morbid!
